Looking for information on the stone embedded (marine scenes) tables on the first floor of the Prado Museum?
Thirty years, I went through the Prado and was blown by a series of wooden tables decorated with a gallery on the first floor topped by incredible maritime scenes composed of inlaid stones. Considered positively watercolorish and I've never been able to find all the information about them. My memory leads me to believe they were late 17th – mid 18th century, but it's been a while. I would really appreciate if someone could scratch that itch for a long time. Thank you!
Many of these tables it (console above table, "Pietre Dure and Cassoni" desks.) displayed in the Prado, especially in the basement. This is part of the Royal Collection: "Las colecciones reales y españolas Mosaicos of Piedras Duras. " The technique is called "Pietre Dure," also called "pietra dura". In 2003 appeared a catalog of the collection.
