Lot # 1396 (Pre-Estimate – $ 15,000-25,000) Final Bid – $ 19,000
Accessory Traffic (of Nicaragua) (NY) 1856. # 12. $ 5000. Bearer Bond. Assistant ocean steamer. Signed twice by Cornelius Vanderbilt as president, and the reverse. Not canceled. John W. Amerman. NY. VF .*
Cornelius "The Vanderbilt Commodore (1794-1877) was an American financier and founder of the family fortune. At the age of 16 years, bought a boat and transported passengers and goods between Staten Island and Manhattan. He later made a fortune in the steam business, earning the nickname of "Commodore". In 1862 he sold his ships and headed for the financing of the railroads, where he amassed a fortune estimated at more $ 100,000,000 by him one of the richest men of his time. Accessory Transit was organized by Vanderbilt to move passengers and cargo to the West Coast through Nicaragua. Vanderbilt hired CK Garrison as his agent through San Francisco, and Charles Morgan as his agent in New York.
Shortly after posting this link was the "war three Commodores, "between Charles Morgan, Cornelius Vanderbilt and George Law. Accessory Transit competed openly with the Act grants Aspinwall-mail online. Morgan and Garrison, on the other hand, transit handling operations so that while Vanderbilt has benefited largely lost. Vanderbilt is said to burst in them, "I will not sue because the law takes too long. I lose you."
Vanderbilt managed to unseat Morgan and Hoyt of the board of directors, but another headache immediately developed in the form of William Walker, who invaded Nicaragua with the support of Morgan and his Associate! William Walker became the president of Nicaragua. With to obtain the money needed to maintain an army of 1,200 men together, took sides in the internal struggle within the transit accessories company. Foolishly support those who had betrayed the Commodore Vanderbilt, Walker seized the assets of the company and handed over to the insurgent faction. Vanderbilt responded with a blockade, the Walker court of reinforcements, while inciting the neighboring states. Vanderbilt sent mercenaries to Costa Rica, where he obtained a small force of native troops to attack Walker. As result of Walker suffered defeat and had to flee in May 1857. Vanderbilt was then back in business with Nicaragua.
The first accessory transit certificate signed by Cornelius Vanderbilt have been sold in more than a decade, a museum quality certificate that you can not get back into the life of the collection.

Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (MD) 1838. # 12. SHS 2500. The people stroll along the Canal and the Potomac River to the left. Signed as president of the corporation by George C. Washington (1789-1854), grand-nephew of George Washington, member and negotiator of the treaty, India. Tape the center spot, otherwise VF .*
This company was established in 1828, in succession to the old Potowmack Company. Half of the six million dollars in capital came from the states of Maryland and Virginia, as well as cities Washington, Georgetown and Alexandria. Although John Quincy Adams turned the first sod, the company was not successful. A change of plan widening the canal made it impossible to finish the work within the limits of the capital. For the crash of 1837, all $ 8 million had been spent and the canal was still 50 miles from Cumberland. Meanwhile, President Jackson had to repeatedly call the militia to restore order among the workers, and surprisingly tough.
Finally, in 1850, well above budget, the canal reached Cumberland, the coal mines which offered at least one commercial product that could lead to Washington. The company ran a profit of 1860-1880, with the exception of 1877 when a major flood on the Potomac River destroyed the works. The company returned to their feet, but the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, constantly dissipated their business. He stayed until 1924, when another great flood destroyed the works and reconstruction financially impossible. The federal government bought the land as a park in the 1930s.
Lot # 1116 (Pre-Estimate – $ 600 to $ 900) Final Bid – $ 950
Lewis & Clark Centennial & American Pacific Fair & Expo East (O) 1904. # 1656. Action. Green. Large gold embossed corporate seal with an image of a settler and India aims to map the Louisiana Purchase. "When Oregon Rolls" ships in port. Meriwether Lewis and William Clark on each side. This exhibition was held in Portland, Oregon, in 1905, to commemorate the anniversary of the famous Lewis and Clark expedition from St. Louis to the Pacific coast, which charted a route to the West through the Rocky Mountains.
Lot # 1209 (Pre-Estimate – $ 2,000 – $ 4,000) Final Offer – $ 2600
Estate of Alexander Hamilton (New York) 29 November 1804. $ 200. Printed form. Signed as trustees of Gouverneur Morris (1752-1816) patron Morrisana, U.S. diplomat Senator. He was a member of Congress Continental and one of the three authors of the Articles of Confederation. Also signed by Rufus King (1755-1827), Revolutionary soldier, Continental Congressman, Senator U.S. New York, twice U.S. Senator, the successful candidate for Federal President in 1804 (hence the signature). Another signer was Oliver Wolcott, Jr. The other signers were Robert Benson, and Thomas Wilkes. Framed behind glass with an engraving of Gouverneur Morris. Not examined frame, but appears to be EF.
Published just four months after the famous duel between Hamilton Vice President, with Aaron Burr. Hamilton was brilliant in getting the affairs of the United States in order, but allowed his finances Personal fall into complete disorder. The four gentlemen who signed this certificate formed a committee to liquidate the assets of Hamilton to try to salvage something from Mrs. Hamilton and children.
Prices are generally much better and autographed items and rare pieces did exceptionally well. None of the prices listed here include Buyers Premium.
